The first few chapters are backstory heavy, as it is vital to the plot. Once understood, the setting is thrilling and new. The excitement of colonizing planets, learning extraterrestrial species, exploring new lands, and life-altering technology adds to this beautiful novel.
The main character, a xenobiologist named Kira, is instantly likeable as she is truly an independent, strong, and relatable protagonist. She is afraid of being separated from Alan, a geologist on her team. From the very beginning, Paolini establishes romances, plot twists, and danger. I love this book!
