The story of a xenobiologist discovering new life is definitely an intriguing start to any novel! Paolini's return to fiction takes typical sci-fi tropes and makes them his own. I'm invested in Kira's journey--her relationship with her romantic interest, Alan, the other members of her scientific research team, and her inspection of new terraforming colony Adrasteia. While the beginning is a bit slow in its set-up, the excerpt leaves on a cliffhanger that made me want to know what happens next! Sign me up for all the alien life and eager human scientists!
