This book was gorgeous. The imagery was amazing and the characters and storyline totally stole my heart. And the cover and end pages, of course. It was exactly the right book at exactly the right time.

First I have to say that I’m a goner when you present me with a book set during the first part of the 20th century. And the glam and glitz of NYC, and there’s no hope. Speakeasies, the fashion, newly gained freedoms for women; I am so completely fascinated by it.

Second, the characters of this book were everything I’d hoped for. They really came alive on the pages, with a great mix of personalities and backgrounds that really helped to move the story along. Jenny’s history really affects everything about her present in this book, and it was done in a way that felt very realistic for the time period.

And can we just touch on the Tiffany aspect for one quick sec? This book led me down a wormhole of all things Laurelton Hall and Louis Comfort Tiffany. I’d never heard of the mansion before, nor did I have any knowledge of LCT, but now I can’t get enough. I appreciate the time and effort Rose put into making this feel like an authentic chunk of the past. If you’re a fan of historical fiction, NYC in the 1920s, and/or the Tiffany family, add this book to your list.
