My mother was an art student at Music and Art in NYC in the 1940s, so the descriptions of art classes, techniques and teachers seems authentic in this intriguing mystery. The plot is sketched in the first chapters with enough foreshadowing to make the story interesting but not predictable. I found I had a good understanding of the personalities of the characters, yet their motivations and back stories kept me happily guessing and engaged.
An underlying philosophy threads through the story and I look forward to reading how it unfolds and changes the characters. A few sentences stood out and made me look back and read them again, always the sign of inspired writing. Ex: “Where I found my heart’s desire and my palette’s power.”
