Tiffany Blues was my first novel by author, MJ Rose, and I applaud her ability to what life was like for young, New York artists in the 1920’s. I was fascinated to learn of the artist colony established by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The descriptions of Tiffany’s Laurelton and the inspirations for his art was among the most intriguing aspects of the book. I admired his motivations in helping to inspire young artists to achieve their full creative potential and found his relationship with the protagonist, Jennifer, endearing. I found the setting, timeframe, descriptions of sensory splendor, and learning about Mr. Tiffany among the most captivating elements amid an otherwise flat story. There were too much foreshadowing and over-dramatization about the protagonist’s history, desire to keep her secret, mystery, and the artists/cast of characters in her social circle. For me, this book was the equivalent of eating in an exquisite restaurant with elegant place settings, great music, terrific service, but just so-so food. I would rate Tiffany Blues 3.5 stars.
