This book was one of my most anticipated reads this year and it truly did not disappoint! This is an incredible debut that should not be missed if you're a fan of fantasy and mystery. Hatzopoulou blends the genres very effectively here and it was a thrill to read from start to finish. The world building is phenomenal and super uunique. I have read so much fantasy and this world really blows me away with how incredibly well crafted and complex it is.
Additionally, there was a lot of really great diversity and representation in this book, which was refreshing to see incorporated into a fantasy work. I also really appreciated the complexity and depth of Io’s relationships with her two sisters. Both relationships were very nuanced and interesting to see how they changed throughout the book.
The ending was really well done. Some things were explained and wrapped up, but other questions were left open. Based on the end, it seems like this will be a series and I am definitely eager to read more about this world and it’s characters as well as find out the answers to any open questions.
