This is one of the most unique books I have ever read. It can fall into so many different categories: written through letters, a future world at war with itself, enemies to lovers…but the best-fitting might be a time-traveling romance.
The two characters are entities that refer to each other as Red and Blue. Two beings fighting for opposing teams. As you read, you learn more about the war that’s being fought through moments in history, often unseen. Somehow these two characters find ways to write to each other, leaving letters in pockets of time. These letters show gradual character development and ask questions that cut to the nature of their life’s work. You can’t help but root for the characters, especially since the war is happening out of time, where the winner fluctuates and the end seems impossible to reach. It’s fitting that the ending shows the characters breaking the cycle to be together.
