Exception to many personal rules

This was one of those books that shouldn't have appealed to me personally and did. An exception to the rule that I don't like witty banter, that I don't like battle scenes and cold hearted warrior crap, that I don't like vague worldbuilding or overwrought writing styles. I picked this up on a whim at a book signing for a different author and had one of the author's of this book sign it. He wasn't very friendly but no worries. None of these things kept me from enjoying the ever-loving frick out of this short and beautifully written tale of an unlikely connection between two women who are kinda tired of an endless time travel war. It was exciting, poetic, but didn't draw out too long. One of my favorites of the year.
I couldn't guess the ending until it happened and that's usually hard to pull off for me. I can usually figure out a couple possible endings at least. Not this time!
