I’ve been hyped for this novel for months already, and this first taste did nothing to diminish the excitement. The prose is both funny and beautiful, and the first few pages successfully ask a whole host of questions. Who and what is Red, who are her employers, how and why is she in this moment in the time war, and, also, what is the time war? Pageturn-y stuff.
