The plot of this novel is just ridiculous. I miss when we "people of color" were more than merely our skin tone. I reme when people treated me like a woman first but now they see me as black first which is the opposite of what civil rights did. We aren't judged by the content of our character first but by our skin tone and it's all because of the mindset this novel gives off. I'm just so tired of reading about characters who are so self consumed with their race that it becomes their entire identity and make up. I don't want people to judge me based on my skin before even meeting me but nowadays it seems like every "POC" wants their skin color recognized before anything else. That's not equality. Maybe I'm just an old black lady but I miss when we didn't talk about race incessantly and when it didn't consume every aspect of life. I'm sure this author meant well but I was over it by the end of this sneak peak. I miss reading complex characters with problems beyond their skin color and sexuality. It seems like every character is nothing more than who they have sex with and what color their skin is. I wanted to like the cover but it looks oddly pixilated/blurry? Not sure if that was on purpose or not.
