This is another of those "I wouldn't necessarily choose this as a reader but I would recommend it as a librarian" types of books. That's not a negative thing at all--it is usually the sign of a YA book that's actually written for teenagers and not the adult women who obsessively post on social media about the genre.
I think the premise and writing are really interesting and I do have a genuine desire to finish the book. I think I know a good number of people who would like this.
Also I hope the cat comes back and gets a happy ending, even if I know that's wishful thinking.
