From the cover to the very first paragraph, Thieves' Gabit grabs you. Not only is this book fast-paced, but it's full of tension and high stakes. Right from the get-go, we learn that Ross Quest is the daughter of a family of thieves. Between her and her mom, they have stolen countless treatures, but Ross wants out...Being isolated all these years (according to her Mom, you can't trust anyone), she longs to make friends with peers, to have a normal experience of life for once.

I really connected with Ross's character. She seems like a very relatable teen who's lonely and just wants a shot at a bit of normalcy. Unfortunately, her mom seems to be pretty toxic, not letting her make friends, making her feel bad for wanting to do something different than stealing, and generally not giving her the love and acknowledgment she so yearns for. So when her mom gets taken hostage during a heist gone wrong, upending Ross's plans to escape for a chance at summer camp, on her own for once, Ross panics and accepts an invitation to the Thieves Gambit in the hopes of winning her Mom's freedom.

Lewis launches you directly into the story, and I found myself quickly reading through the pages because I was hooked by the set-up and the amp-up of stakes. I'm excited to see how Ross will fare against her fellow competitors, and whether or not she will be able to break free of the thieving life.
