Jill’s friend Shaila died when they were freshmen. Shay’s boyfriend Graham confessed that night, he was blackout drunk and covered in blood. He thought he might have done it, he didn’t remember anything. Jill, Shay and all of their friends had been together that night. They were in a group called the Players. At the exclusive school goes to, on the scholarship, the Players is even more exclusive.
Joining the Players is a lot scarier than any of the girls anticipated. Their challenges before joining aren’t minor.
But the perks are big too. They get “help” on their exams. With Jill being there on an academic scholarship she needs all the help she can get.
This year, Jill and her friends are seniors. They are in charge of the Players now. Jill says they have to be the ones to change things. They won’t be cruel, they won’t humiliate people.
At the same time, Jill gets contacted by a voice from her past: Graham’s sister. She says he’s innocent. She has proof. But she doesn’t know who actually killed Shaila. She wants a Jill to help. With all the stress in Jill’s life, she wants to walk away. But she knows she owes Shay justice. If Graham didn’t kill her, the real killer should be the one behind bars.
This was an interesting story that keeps the reader guessing. The stories about the Player’s initiation were so extreme, they could really be horrible people. I like that Jill wanted to be better than that.
I got an early copy from Bookish first. Thanks!
