This book begins with, "I don't know how anyone makes it out of High School alive." That definitely gets the reader's attention but the entire prologue is so suspenseful I actually sent the first and last lines to a friend. From the prologue I couldn't put it down. None of the characters are particularly likable. I am a reader who enjoys books with characters I get very attached to. I love a series with a heroine I feel like I know in real life, but even with these very complicated, not even very relatable characters, I was still fully hooked wanting to see just how depraved the see kids were, and which ones were maybe redeemable after all.
I would definitely read future novels by Jessica Goodman after reading this one, as she has a gift for small surprises sprinkled throughout, not just the big reveal of the "who done it" at the end.
