This book for me is 3 stars because I think it’s exactly average. Not too sweet, not too spicy. It’s a fast, fun YA mystery with good vibes for the Halloween season! If you’re looking for something easy, this is it.

While the mystery was intriguing, I felt like the payoff wasn’t nearly big enough in this book. I guessed most of the ending by chapter two and that made the reveal a little disappointing.

The characters themselves were right on the precipice of being okay for me. I maybe didn’t relate because my high school experience wasn’t anything like theirs, but I’m too of that, as a 22 year old reading this, I wanted to just smack all of them and tell them to grow up and communicate a little better.

That being said, the book was fun! A little cringe but in the best way possible. I also really liked that the idea of inequities between girls and guys, and how men tend to hold power, especially in high school came up a quite bit.

Overall, this is a fast, fun, mildly thrillers read for the Halloween season. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes school stories or a light YA mystery!
