Unsupervised teens in a secret society at a private high school who get caught up in a murder - stop me if you've heard this one before! This is one of my most enjoyable tropes to read and They Wish They Were Us hit the sweet spot! I did start to guess whodunnit towards the end, as more clues were revealed, but it was still a fun reading journey! They Wish They Were Us will hook you, drag you into the mysteries of a murder and a secret clique, then spit you out the other side wishing that you wanted more. It's equal parts Veronica Mars, I Am Charlotte Simmons, and Prep. I enjoyed this book because it did more than just lead the reading through a high school murder - it explores hazing, gender dynamics, and the pressures we all have faced/will face as high school seniors.
