The style of lethargic descriptors that the author uses in the sample set a highly intriguing autmospere that reminded me of E. Lockhart's "We Were Liars". Jill (so far) read as both inwardly dynamic and purposefully lacking outward social agency, which gave me Kathryn from "Cruel Intentions" vibes; that being one of my favourite movies really excites me.

I hope to see just how far the character Jill is willing to put a face on for social pride. I feel like the "Gossip Girl" feel came in heaviest from the reporteresque way the prologue opened on a "tantalizing snippet", although I suppose the whole book could lean more into "Pretty Little Liars" territory with the whole Dead-Teen-Girl-Thing.
