Jill Newman, the teen narrator of 'They Wish They Were Us', is still haunted by the murder of her best friend, Shaila Arnold, three years ago. We find this out on page 1. On page 2, we learn that Jill, Shaila and their other 6 friends, were 'Players', and the remaining 6 are still the intriguing Players. This sets up questions in the reader's mind. What is being a Player all about? Was being a Player the cause of Shaila's death? Why does Jill feel guilty about Shaila's murder, or is it just survivor's guilt? If not Graham, then who killed Shaila? If the murderer is still on the loose, is another murder in the offing? I'd love to read this YA murder mystery to answer these and more questions the First Read raises.
