This is a typical YA book. The POV alternates between two sisters. Stella and Ellie. Both are on the track team at their high school. The book begins with the last days of summer. We learn that Stella is at a Track camp for anger management. We only get a glimpse of what happened, but we learn that whatever happened the previous year has possibly jeopardized her chances of a track scholarship. Enter Ellie: Ellie is the more laid back of the two. Her entrance begins with her lounging by the pool. She is feeling the pressure now to earn a scholarship since their parents can’t afford to send them both to college. She is also fretting about a secret summer romance with a boy who is already in a relationship. There is also the story of the cold case murders that happen in town. A murderer who attacks women on running trails. The books lays out the character development early on. We learn about the sisters, their friends, and their parents each with an interesting back story. Each character has a place in my head so that when I see their names again later on in the book I won’t have to go back 100 pages to try and remember who they are.
