They’ll Never Catch Us isn’t your typical highschool drama.

The story bounces between sisters Ellie and Stella Steckler who live in Edgewater. Known for the murders of three former track members, the town is finally starting to have some normalcy.
Stella is a track superstar and on her way to Georgetown with a full scholarship, until tragedy strikes during a meet. Labeled as violent, Stella is sent off to Runner/anger management camp.
Ellie spends her summer secretly dating Noah, captain of the boys track team and finds herself in some trouble that she has no one to tell. Both feeling alone, they restart their focus on their track careers and getting themselves as far from Edgewater as they can.
All of that changes when school starts back up and Mila Keene, a track star from another state, shows up and gives the Steckler girls a little competition, but also a friendship they both didn’t know they needed.
When Mila is discovered dead, it’s up to the Steckler sisters to not only defend and protect each other, but to solve the mystery behind the murder.

👟 Overall the book was pretty good! Fast paced, kept my interest, and plot twist in the end actually surprised me. Some parts did drag a little in the beginning but picked up really quickly.
The book does have some LGBTQ+ 🏳️‍🌈 and another hot button issue that some might deem inappropriate for some young teens, so fair warning.
With a discussion after, I’d allow my 12 or 13 year old to probably read it.
Something that struck me though was the topic of athletic pressure from coaches and parents. As a sport parent we push and push without seeing the stress or damage we are causing. The book really brings home the point of maintaining a level of self care.
