This book was definitely a hit and miss for me. They'll Never Catch Us follows sisters Stella and Ellie Steckler. They are a few years apart, but attend the same high school, as not only students but star cross country runners. Just as the new school year begins, Mila Keene, another fast runner and star athlete, joins the cross country team. The Steckler sisters, who are very competitive, initially see her as competition, but then begin to bond with her. Shortly thereafter, Mila goes missing while out on a training run. There is all kinds of speculation, but mostly that the Steckler sisters are somehow involved in Mila's disappearance.

This book was truly and hit and miss for me. The hits: the complex sisterly relationship between Stella and Elle. The actions and conversations that happened between these two were very well written and realistic; the relationship between the sisters, their parents, and the parents themselves were complicated at times, but really added to this novel; the plot, overall, was also well thought out. As some other reviewers stated, some of the plot was easy to figure out. However, the ending was a surprise. The misses: this story consistently had storylines of the characters getting drunk and high while supposedly being supervised by their coach; the local police detective was made to look like an idiot. The "misses" took away from this novel earning 5 stars. Since this novel is geared towards a YA audience, I would have preferred stronger mentors.
