Though the topic was pretty grim and the circumstances dire, I had fun reading this book. I wanted to keep reading as soon as I cracked open the book (and I was sad that I got this copy weeks after the release, since I was expecting it sooner). Things done well: capturing the intensity of athletics and the adults who create and perpetuate toxic environments that hurt young student athletes. The two sisters-Ellie and Stella- are top runners at their school. Their coach SUCKS. He is verbally abusive and knows exactly what he is doing when he pits people against one another. I was appalled by his behavior (as a former coach myself), but I also have seen so many other coaches with this exact type of dangerous philosophy. And it damages young runners, especially female runners. The men and boys who play important roles in this story kind of suck.

The resolution of the mystery itself--who killed Mila Keene?-- came at the end. I thought I might have had an inkling of who it might have been, but I was surprised by what the author had hidden up her sleeve.
