Thank you to Razorbill and BookishFirst for this book in exchange for an honest review!

They'll Never Catch Us by Jessica Goodman is a new fast-paced YA thriller from the author of They Wish They Were Us, (which is getting turned into a TV show next year, and I can't wait!) The story revolves around two sisters, Stella and Ellie Steckler, who tear it up on the track. They're shining stars on their high school's track team. But what happens when the alluring and fast Mila joins the team? Will the sisters befriend her or malign her? When Mila goes missing, everyone on the team turns on the sisters. Did they kill her, and why? Or, is the murderer still out there, waiting to strike again?

Here is an excerpt from Chapter 1, which is from Stella's point of view:

"I hate the way my sister Ellie breathes. She doesn’t huff or
puff or pant or wheeze. No, Ellie’s breath is steady and sure and
it never changes. Not when she accelerates around a particularly angled turn. Not even when she sprints the final hundred
yards. Her breath is as consistent as the time.
I also hate the way Ellie’s ponytail never falls out of place.
And that she can run in silence without wanting to crush her
own brain with her hands. How can my little sister have so
many thoughts she actually wants to think?
Me, on the other hand. I just want to shut everything out.
That’s why I run. To get away. To be free."

Overall, They'll Never Catch Us is a gripping, unputdownable YA thriller with twists that I did not see coming. I had to keep reading to find out what happens, and I ended up finishing this book in a day. I enjoyed the author's first book, They Wish They Were Us, but this one is even better! As someone who was on the track team in high school, this book brought back a lot of memories - some good, some bad. For example, when you're a runner, it's hard when your greatest competitors aren't on opposing teams, but right next to you in your own team. I also understand the drive to win so that you can get an athletic scholarship. Sometimes, people will do whatever it takes to win. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of YA thrillers, you definitely won't want to miss out on this book! It's out in bookstores now!
