At first, I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy this read since it focuses so much on cross country but I am blown away by it. I was drawn to the small town with strong feminist characters standing up against the sexism they face.

Goodman's strongest asset in this novel was definitely the characters. Even though they weren't all always likable, I found myself attached to them surprisingly fast, especially Mila despite her short time in the story. I could feel their fear, determination, and bitterness practically oozing off the page during the sisters' dual narrative.

The next best thing about this novel was the actual mystery aspect. There were several red herrings for readers and characters to chase and they were dealt with effectively, but when the plot twist was revealed it didn't feel like it came out of nowhere. I didn't suspect it, but thinking back I can see it planned out well!

Pacing may be the only downfall of this novel. Even though I was racing to the end by the middle of the novel, I felt that the beginning was a little slow. It wasn't terrible and actually set up the characters really well, but the pace was not what I expected for a thriller. I would probably describe this as more of a mystery than a thriller.

This was a great read!
