I’m just going to say that I am definitely not the target for YA. Middle grade is beautiful and I’ll read a wide variety of adult literature. And I’ve tried to get into several YA books here to give a fair review, but they all read the same and this is no different: whiny MC with a my-life-is-so-awful-I-have-to-escape attitude. All I got out of this excerpt was “I hate my sister, she’s so perfect…all kinds of dead girls and the cops are so incompetent (that line is such a cliche) yada yada yada.” I hated the voice of the MC so much in the first couple pages, I couldn’t read on.
