I'm assuming that They'll Never Catch Us is going to turn into a suspenseful tale about sisters, both of whom are cross-country runners, faced with a community menace that resulted in the murder of three girls a decade before. The passage takes a while to get to that point, but does lay the groundwork for an excellent story in which the reader is introduced, and becomes attached, to the characters.
