"My answer is to pin his murder on the actual murderer, so we can both go home, book therapy appointments, and carry on with our lives."

There have been many great detective duos. Starsky and Hutch. Rizzoli and Isles. Let's add Tabatha and Callum to this list. Tabatha's narration, including her frustration with white male power within sorcery, is fresh and fun. Her refusal to be a girl in a horror movie is hysterical, as well as her self-awareness of her own naivete. This is one of those YA books where the writer is very good at writing a seventeen year old who feels seventeen.

Is YA magical realism my new favorite genre? Maybe. I love a good mystery, and I can just tell that this one is going to be twisty and fun. I want to get to know Callum even more, and I hope he gets all of the crab cakes in the world. Also: am I supposed to ship Tabatha and Callum? Because I do. Wholeheartedly.

I need this in my life!! And so do you!!
