A Fun Read

I thought this was a fun read overall!

I will say that given the comps for this book were Inheritance Games and Knives Out, this book leaned more towards the former than the latter. But I didn't mind that at all, because it was still a wild ride!

I thought the main things I look for were all executed well: the characters were well fleshed out and interesting, the story was fast paced in a good way, and the plot was interesting to read.

I wish that there was a bit more world building, and I had a better understanding of how the magic system works. I was expecting the story to be more fantasy than it actually was since it featured sorcerers and magic (and yet it read more like a contemporary novel). But none of that detrimental to the story by any means.

The voice also came across as young, which isn't necessarily a bad thing since some 17-year-olds sound young than others.

Overall though, it was a good read. I'd say it's a 3.5-star read, that I rounded up.
