Wow, wow, wow
Look, the first page didn't sell me right away. The book is written in 1st person, which I can be picky about. But only a few pages in and I was hooked--Tabatha is a compelling narrative voice, inviting you into her inner life and giving you a first-hand look at being a sorcerer's apprentice...one who predicts his own death.
Right away, I was enamored with the mentor/mentee relationship between Tabatha and Sorcerer Solomon. There's a fondness there that the author captured so well. And by the end of chapter one, I needed to know what was going to happen next. Urban fantasies are a hit or miss for me personally, but I just the first few chapters give me high hopes that this is going to hit all the elements I like.
I can totally see the "magical knives out" comp, and I absolutely need to read more.
