Excited to try something a little different

Kristin Cashore writes one of my favorite series of all time, but I’ve not delved into her other books until now. I wanted to try something different by her, and what better than her upcoming release? I was not expecting this book to have magical realism, so that aspect of this First Look made me even more excited about this book. As far as the contemporary history/current events aspect, it is so relatable what Wilhelmina is going through with the 2016 Election and 2020 Pandemic. I can also relate to her family loss, which, growing from a young adult, has only increased in life–as it does. I usually read fantasy to escape these parallels to my own life, but this young adult book, with sprinkles of magical realism, actually has me really excited to follow Wilhelmina along on her journey, and I can’t wait to find out what happens, especially between her and James!
