I was excited to receive an advance review copy of this book! You could tell just from the author's description that it was going to be a really unique book, and it definitely lived up to that expectation. I have not (yet?) read that many books that incorporate the Covid years into the YA genre, and it was fascinating to consider the perspective of a young person who graduated in the year that it all began. Add to that the personal trauma that Wilhelmina was experiencing (an important reminder that even through the national trauma that everyone had to deal with, people's personal lives continued to introduce additional challenges as always) and then throw in some elements of magic to top it all off...you've got a recipe for a book unlike anything I've read before. This book is worth reading all on its own, but I also think it would be a fantastic choice for a book club or a high school class to discuss as a group.
