What initially drew me to this one is that I work in a public high school and lived through the turmoil and trauma that COVID caused on the lives of the 1900 teenagers that I work with. The idea that the story centers around coping with the grief and depression and uncertainity running amok in this medical and political minefield caused me to immediately connect with Wilhelmina. It is the hope and perseverance that I want to see our MC grasp on to as she navigates the world that is apparently a little more magical than she thought. The additional of the magical/fantastical elements with a potential prophecy and signs gives just enough to a topic that is still very raw for many but in a way that makes it a little more accessible. Plus, the cover is intriguing. Is it connected to the messages? Is it a labyrinth that comes about through the door. Regardless, I think that this will be the first COVID related book that I'm going to read.
