I loved Graceling, due in no small part to Cashore's relatable, evenly-paced writing, and this book sucked me in right away with the same comfortable reader-space. I feel like I know Wil already in just a few pages.

The prologue was a bit of a rush, and I worried that the whole book would be like this, but it's a way to bring us into the present time quickly, even breathlessly, which is sometimes how loss feels. The pacing in the chapters feels right for the story and the character, and does a great job of spurring our curiosity about what's "really" happening. I also think this book is going to be very insightful and accurate regarding grief, being stuck, and finding yourself again.

Very excited to read more!
