I'm not sure about this one

I like Kristin Cashore's books, but I'm not too sure about There is a Door in this Darkness. The synopsis for this one put me off a little. I don't tend to appreciate when politics are added to fiction books. The First Look has me intrigued. I just don't know how I'm going to like this one. I know this author from their fantasy, so seeing a contemporary ought to be interesting.
