Contemporary YA - There is a Door in this Darkness
I enjoy YA but can be picky with the contemporary books in this genre. I'm super intrigued with the promise of "tinged with magic" and am thinking some type of magical realism may be present throughout. While I don't love the cover art on this, it doesn't through me off entirely to where I wouldn't pick it up. Right away I notice the year is 2020 and I can't say that I'm very eager to relive that year even in fiction haha.
The writing style for this one didn't work for me. It felt like a lot of telling instead of showing right off the bat and I kept finding my mind wandering this way and that. This will be a pass for me.
