Wilhelmina is one adolescent living through the early days of Covid, when people were required to wear masks or else they weren’t allowed to enter buildings. These chapters focus on her point of view and they reveal strange things that happen to her, things only she seems to see.

It’s hard to get a grasp on this story. Is it comedy? Drama? Tragedy? Someone dies and Wilhelmina enters a black pit of depression over it but she climbs out and resumes her life…or does she?

She has a special gift, a kind of clairvoyance (although you don’t get that word in this story), and is just beginning to figure out what it means. The sense of something…bizarre occurring happens in brief flashes of narrative, like bursts of light through tree leaves on a sunny day. It’s just enough to keep this from being a straightforward dramatic narrative but too little to label as fantasy.

The tone is quirky, moody, tentative and secretive. This is a story for people who are looking for just a hint of magic flavoring in their narrative.
