Thank you to James Ramos, Inkyard Press and Bookish First for a copy of The Wrong Kind of Weird. I don't give away spoilers in my reviews.
Cameron is a geek - an anime geek. Karla is the overachiever and Mackenzie is the art girl. The Wrong Kind of Weird is a story about the three of them as well as their other friends.
I really liked Cam and his struggles to fit in. I think his family members contributed so much to who he is in the story as well. He made me laugh and wince - so many times. I was a teenager once too and I could relate to the overall awkwardness of everything he goes through.
This story reminds me of "he loves her, she loves him, she loves somebody else" lyrics from J. Geils Band's Love Stinks. And it really stinks when you're a teenager.
I honestly didn't know who the anime characters were or much about anime but the story explained enough of it that I felt I understood it very well.
I won't spoil the ending other than to say it felt just right.
I'm passing on my copy to my cousin and can't wait for her to read it as well.
