I loved how realistic this book was in relation to high school. It was awkward, quirky, and messy in the way that high schoolers are. It’s also honest; the author didn’t try to hide the reality of high school behind what the media typically portrays high school as, and that’s why I feel like this book is so special. This book also has an INSANE amount of casual diversity—it never felt like James was trying to force characters to be diverse to reach a quota (like some books seem to do). The representation was seamless, clean, and well written. I felt like James didn’t force Gen Z slang terms either, letting the conversations feel more realistic.
I also need to shout out the cover art, because this book is genuinely SO beautiful and looks SO pretty in my shelf. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a realistic representation of high school and anyone who just wants a cute little story that’s both cheesy and fun. It’s a perfect little rom-com.
