This was a cute book, and in general it was a pretty fast read. I definitely felt the vibe of this is a book about Gen Z teenagers, but it showed an authenticity to the characters and made them feel like real people, which was nice. The protagonist, Cameron, has this secret hook-up situation with one girl whom he dreams of being with openly, but he starts to change what he wants out of a relationship when another girl starts a frenemies to lovers situation. The characters are likable, they make plenty of dumb decisions and judgments, but they grow from them and still leave you rooting for them as a reader. There was a lot of humor which I think was done really well, injected subtly in conversations like the kinds you would have with real life friends. Finally, I really liked that the book seemed to be an honest celebration of nerd culture, and it's so fun seeing more of that in books. My main critique why I didn't rate it higher is that there are some flashback moments, and sometimes the way it is written I was a bit confused as to where we were situated in time, and this happened a few times. And overall the plot was fine, though at times it felt a little dragged or that nothing big was really moving it forward. There is some drama, but it also feels a bit more slice of life, so it depends on what you're looking for. But overall a good read if you're looking for a quick contemporary romance.
