If you're anything like me, you will spend at least the first 7 chapters of the book 1asking yourself, "but why?" The pairing of Karla and Cameron feels forced and unnatural, as neither of them appear to be enjoying thier little arrangement. And as someone who grew up fairly sheltered I kept asking..."People really 'hook up' just for the sake of it?" But one of the joys of reading is being able to escape into another, unfamilair reality.
Theres a good juxaposition between Cameron and Karla & Cameron and Macenzie, that helps Cameron make sense out of his own nonsense. And there are some really good quotes throughout the novel. Toward the beginning-of-the-end Cameron does some real soul searching that could have been played out throughout the book a little more but over all, it was a very enjoyable book. Got quite a few laughs & it read like you were part of the friend group...
Speaking of which...
Mr. Ramos did a really good job of creating characters that jump off the page. The reader can see and feel Cameron's frantic-ness whenever he gets... one of those "special" text messages. Mackenzie is easily one of the most, if not the most, loveable characters in the entire novel.
D'Anthony...we all have a friend like him who we love.
