2.5 stars rounded up to 3.0 stars because 1) I was able to finish the full read and 2) it was a quick 1-2 hour read for me.
That said, it was underwhelming and a little disappointing for me. I absolutely LOVE to read anything by a local NC author so I was excited to get my hands on this read. I also love a good mystery/thriller especially when it's a page turner so double thumbs up initially.
However, it was so hard to stay motivated to read this one through. It felt like the first half of the novel was wasted in some ways. I feel like I could have been given a five page synopsis of the first hundred or so pages and been in the same spot as far as set up for the remainder of the read.
Then, for the ending, it felt like it was too abrupt and too "ohhh, I saw this coming halfway through." I would read it again given the fast pace and ease to skim pages, but I don't know that I would pick up another read by the author.
