If you enjoyed No Exit by a Taylor Adams, you’ll also enjoy The Woods Are Always Watching by Stephanie Perkins. This young adult is about best friends Neena and Josie who are ready to head off to college two thousand miles apart. They plan a three day pre-college hike through the Pisgah National Forest. However, simmering tensions lead them on a detour and straight into a nightmare.
The book takes place in three different parts: together, apart, together. And while the first together felt slow moving and immature, the rest of the book made up for it. Once I got past that first part, I could not put the book down. Being with Neena and Josie as they fought for their lives kept me fascinated and I had to keep reading to find out what the outcome would be. I even stayed up last my bedtime to finish the book. Really a great read if you don’t mind gore.
