This is the story of Josie and Neena, best friends who decide to go on a hiking/camping trip through the Pisgah National Forest. Their lives are about to experience a major shift as Neena heads to college across the country and Josie remains behind to go to college near home. The girls do not have the necessary experience and preparation for this type of adventure and are not really prepared for the conditions and difficulties involved.

In the first part of the book, the author establishes the characters of Neena and Josie and their friendship. The description of the dark, creepy atmosphere of the woods is very well done. The journey through the woods brings to life underlying tension between the two friends. The action and terror develops in the second part of the book. The girls encounter numerous dangers as the suspense continues to build.

This book was a quick read for me and did hold my interest for the most part. The strength and resilience of the two girls is one of the best parts of the book. The abrupt, unresolved ending was a disappointment for me. Thank you to Dutton Books and Bookish First for the advanced copy of this book!
