If you'd asked before I read the excerpt, I would have told you that a slow build story of two people hiking was not for me. But the writing (sentence structure, foreshadowing, dialogue, character building, all of it) is just so good here I am gripped. I still have no idea where it's going, but I'm eager to find out.
