I can't get past that anyone, including these two smart girls would think that backpacking for three days, with no experience and no way to reach out for help would be a good idea. Why did they not just turn around? Okay because that would be a bad story. Didn't get much more interesting than listening to two girls who are supposed to be best friends, but the reader has to be told that because otherwise it would be hard to tell, argue with each other.
