When I review a book (or write a first impression), I say what I like to hear when I read a review (or first impression). And I don't care what the reviewer thinks of the book's cover.
I wanted to read an excerpt of this book mostly to know whether it sounds like a translation. I assume it IS a translation, but if the book sounds like one, it's not the way the author intended, and I'm not interested.
But, if that is your concern, too, I'm happy to tell you not to worry. My impression is that it is written by a native English speaker even though it isn't.
The best thrillers are not simple. The multiple viewpoints should make this story complex. Therefore, I'd like to read more.
