It's not a bad book. Certainly not the worst I have ever read. But it's nothing special, either. It's middle of the road in my opinion, and failed to hold my interest. If it had come out a few years ago, before the massive boom we've had in domestic suspense with books like "The Woman In the Window" or "The Girl On the Train" and others of their ilk, it might have made more of an impression. But as it stands, this one is just so much white noise in a sea of similar stories. It almost reads as a paint by numbers, with certain boxes checked such as the variance of POVs, the main characters with mysterious pasts, and the rich couple whose glittering life isn't what it seems. This retread quality is not helped by the exposition dump we get throughout the beginning of the book. I can admire the author's attempt to use "official" police transcripts to help tell the story, but they come off as unrealistic and either too official or not official enough, which takes the reader out of the story. Overall, this one is a valiant effort but one which will probably not leave much of an impact in its wake.
