The reader knows from the beginning there has been a murder. Now, one starts looking at every bit of knowledge concerning the characters. Why were Bill’s fingerprints found inside the house? What part might Karla have had in all this? What was wrong with Mrs. Rueiter? The characters are an interesting bunch.
