Thank you to Bookish First and Scout Press Books for this ARC.

When I first saw that this was a memoir written by a military spouse, I knew I had to pick it up. My husband served in the US Marines for 8 years, and there are very few (yet so many) wives who understand what this journey entails. I immediately wanted to see what Simone Gorrindo had to say.

I didn't expect this book to bring up so many emotions from my past. It's easy to forget how you have instant fear anytime a doorbell rings thinking it may be the moment that changes your life forever. There are very few women who understand the conflicting emotions as you watch your friend bury her husband, yet a small voice whispers, "Thank God, it wasn't mine."

But Simone gets it, and she shines a light on the sisterhood, the trauma, and the strength that these women embody as they are stuck waiting while life goes on for everyone else.

Even if you have never had a loved one serve, this book will make you appreciate the sacrifices of those who have. It will allow you to see their partners and families as they really are: heroes who support those who fight.

I highly recommend picking up a copy of "The Wives" and immersing yourself in this world.
