The author of this memoir gives the reader some insights into the life of a young military wife and what she deals with during her spouse’s deployments. Simone is opposed to Andrew joining the army but she decides to put her career on hold to marry him and become part of this military culture, living near Fort Benning. At first, she is reluctant to befriend the other wives but she describes her transition to bonding with these women and does an excellent job in describing how they support each other. Another key component of the book is Simone’s candid thoughts and feelings about going through her pregnancy without Andrew and her fears that he might not make it back in time for the birth or at all. I was glad to read that both she and Andrew were open to marital counseling and in fact, enlisted psychotherapy help several times. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I did find it a little too long with some repetitive type details.
